I have companies ask me all the time what the importance of Search Engine Optimization plays in the launch of their new website. They feel overwhelmed when they are launching a new site that will have to compete with sites that have been online and in the search engines for many years. I always advise my clients to never put Search Engine Optimization on the back burner. It is imperative that this be one of the key focus’ of the marketing strategy for a new website. Just recently I had a client launch a new site with a somewhat aged URL. We advised them somewhat during the development of the site so it launched with Search Engine Optimization elements already implemented on the site for the most part. My first piece of advice when they officially launched was for them to set up a Facebook, twitter, Squidoo lens, and a blog, then to release a press release about their new launch. From these social places and off their website strategies, they can start to drum up attention in social spaces. Buzz around your brand is the first place to start. Remember, popularity equals importance!
